Netflix has given an eight-episode order to a comedy series from Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland.
The untitled Universal Television project stars Lyonne as Nadia, a young woman who is the guest of honor at an apparently inescapable New York City party.
Lyonne co-created the series with Poehler and Headland (“Bridesmaid”), who are all executive producing. Headland is penning the first episode, while Lyonne and Headland are writers on the series.
Poehler‘s Paper Kite Productions, JAX Media and 3 Arts Entertainment are producing with Universal. Paper Kite’s Brooke Posch and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky are executive producing.
“So excited to get cracking with the intensely brilliant Leslye Headland, the GOAT with a heart of gold Amy Poehler, and Netflix, the safe haven I’ve been searching for since the ’80s,” Lyonne said. “Deeply moved to work with such heavy hitters and to share our show with the world.”
Headland added, “These women are heroes of mine and to work with them at a company that promotes originality and creativity is a thrill.”
“Natasha’s humor, humanity and depth have connected with audiences around the world on ‘Orange is the New Black,’” said Netflix vice president of original content Cindy Holland. “With this new series, she, Leslye and Amy are creating an ambitious and uniquely formatted comedy that will have viewers guessing as much as they will be laughing.”
This is not the first time that Netflix has worked with Lyonne or Poehler. Lyonne earned an Emmy nomination for her role on “Orange Is the New Black,” while Poehler co-stars in the “Wet Hot American Summer” series.
