‘American Idol’: Votes Record for a Non-Finale Is Shattered

95 million votes have been tallied in advance of Thursday’s penultimate results show

The tenth season of 'American Idol' is surging toward a big finish, with Wednesday's penultimate performance show leading to a whopping 95 million votes being cast.

That's a record for a non-finale episode of the Fox program, which is in the midst of a spectacular resurgence, despite a cosmetic makeover on its judges panel and increased competition from new copycats.

The finale airs over two nights, May 25 and 26, with part two revealing the season's winner from the remaining contestants, Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alaina — although one from that trio will be sent packing at the end of Thursday's second-to-last results show.
