“American Idol” fell 24 percent in demo ratings Sunday versus the prior week, which was its season premiere. The decline in total viewers was a few points less dramatic than that.
ABC was first in ratings with a 1.1 rating/5 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 6 million, according to preliminary numbers. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 p.m. had a 0.9/5 and 5.6 million viewers. “Idol” from 8 to 10 got a 1.3/6 and 7.2 million viewers. At 10, “Shark Tank” received a 0.8/4 and 3.9 million viewers.
CBS, NBC and Fox tied for second in ratings, each with a 0.7/3. CBS was first in total viewers with 6.5 million; NBC was third with 3.1 million; Fox was fourth with 1.9 million.
For CBS, “60 Minutes” at 7 had a 0.8/4 and 8.4 million viewers. At 8, “God Friended Me” got a 0.6/3 and 6.7 million viewers. A Grammys tribute to Aretha Franklin closed out the final two hours of primetime, averaging a 0.6/2 and 5.4 million viewers.
For NBC, following a rerun, “World of Dance” from 8 to 10 received a 0.8/4 and 3.5 million viewers. “Good Girls” at 10 managed a 0.6/3 and 2.5 million viewers.
For Fox, after reruns, “The Simpsons” at 8 had a 0.8/3 and 2.2 million viewers. “Bob’s Burgers” at 8:30 got a 0.8/3 and 2 million viewers. “Family Guy” at 9 received a 0.9/4 and 2.3 million viewers. Another repeat followed.
Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1.2 million.
Univision was sixth in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in viewers with 906,000.
The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.2/1 and in viewers with 898,000. Following local programming, “Supergirl” at 8 had a 0.3/1 and 1.1 million viewers. At 9, “Charmed” got a 0.2/1 and 765,000 viewers.
