As Bob Odenkirk prepares to return to AMC for the prequel “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul” in February 2015, AMC offered potential fans a sneak peek at the new series featuring an early encounter between Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks during “The Walking Dead” midseason finale Sunday night.
As fans of “Breaking Bad” know, Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut became Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman’s private investigator and fixer before ultimately finding himself reluctantly allied with Bryan Cranston‘s Walter White.
In this sneak peek, though, the two have no working relationship at all. Instead, Mike is the guy at the parking security gate not letting Saul get through. Apparently, Saul owes him money and even while apologizing, he can’t help but be patronizing and insulting.
Mike’s usefulness quickly becomes apparent when Saul tries to be both defiant and tough, and he’s never been good at those things in a direct sense. How the two become fast friends — or as close to that as anyone in the “Breaking Bad” universe can manage — is something that will be explored as “Better Call Saul” continues its run.
AMC premieres “Better Call Saul” on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 10 p.m. ET, with the second episode following on Monday, Feb. 9 at 10 p.m. ET.
