“Patriot,” Amazon’s political dark comedy about an intelligence operative, has been renewed for a second season, TheWrap has learned.
The show stars Michael Dorman as John Tavner, an intelligence officer who has to go over to Iran to prevent it from going nuclear. In order to maintain his cover, he takes a job at a Midwestern industrial piping firm.
“Patriot” also stars Terry O’Quinn, Kurtwood Smith, Katherine Munroe, Aliette Opheim, and Michael Chernus.
The show explores “lesser known, unglamorous aspects of life as an intelligence officer,” according to an official Amazon description. It’s is less about spying, the thriller aspects, or the political intrigue that comes with the job, but rather about the distractions from that and the interpersonal relationships between the characters. O’Quinn, for example, plays Tom Tavner, who’s John’s father but also his boss at the State Department. Smith is John’s annoying, stickler boss at the piping firm.
The second season will be executive produced by show creator Steven Conrad, who also writes and directs on the series, James Parriott, Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, Charles Gogolak, and Gil Bellows.
Amazon picked up “Patriot” in 2015 following its pilot season. The renewal comes just over a month after Season 1 premiered on Amazon Prime.
Amazon Prime members can now stream the entire 10-episode first season.
