Amazon may not be done with Neil Gaiman’s “Good Omens” and is hopeful the studio is not done with Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Fleabag.”
“We’re lucky to have an ongoing relationship with Neil and we’re so excited about how Season 1 has done for us. The notion has come up about whether we can revisit that world. It’s in Neil’s hands now but we would love to do it,” COO and co-head of television, Vernon Sanders, said Saturday during Amazon’s executive session at the Television Critics Association press tour. “Whatever he wants to do we’re interested in.” Gaiman is currently working on adapting his comic “The Sandman” for Netflix.
“Good Omens” is based on Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel of the same name and starred David Tennant and Michael Sheen. Gaiman and Pratchett were working on a novel called “668: The Neighbor of the Beast” that never published.
Gaiman previously told TheWrap there were certain elements from the unfinished sequel that made it into the Amazon series. One example was the increased role of the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) and the other angels and demons, which were only briefly mentioned in footnotes of the book.
Gaiman also had a few ideas for what a follow-up could look like, referencing that 30-minute cold open in the third episode of the series. “What I discovered in writing that sequence is you could pick any time in human history, you can take Crowley and Aziraphale, you can stick them into it, not doing whatever their respective head office thinks they’re doing, and you have a story.”
Waller-Bridge had previously said the second season of “Fleabag” would be its last, but Amazon Studios chief Salke is not ready to give up.
“I’m basically her stalker,” Salke said. “Anything Phoebe wants to do we are signed up to do. Nothing would make us happier than to have her bring another season of that show, or anything else she wants to do. I’m forever the optimist. I remain always hopeful until it’s really over.”
