CBS46 morning news anchor Amanda Davis died on Tuesday after suffering a massive stroke while at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday. She was 62.
Davis was rushed to hospital where she received emergency treatment but it was unsuccessful.
“Her family is asking for privacy at this difficult time,” CBS 46 said in an online statement on Wednesday. “Amanda’s friends and colleagues at CBS 46 are praying for her family.”
Davis, an Emmy-award winning journalist, joined CBS 46 as a morning in January after 26 years at WAGA-TV. Davis retired from WAGA in 2012 following a DUI-related arrest. In 2016, Davis opened up about her battle with alcoholism in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Davis was on her way to Texas for her stepfather’s funeral when she suffered a stroke, according to CBS.
There was an outpouring of sympathy and support on Twitter following the announcement, with many of Davis’ colleagues and longtime viewers expressing their remorse.
In total and complete shock right now. Please pray for comfort and peace for Amanda's family. They've been through a lot & need our prayers. Please pray also for all of our @cbs46 family as we deal with the loss of our colleague & friend. Rest In Peace Amanda. 🙏🏽 @AmandaCBS46 pic.twitter.com/GRLQKKew4C
