“All My Children” star Cameron Mathison has revealed that he’s been diagnosed with kidney cancer and will undergo surgery to remove a tumor on Thursday.
Mathison first announced the news on Hallmark’s “Home & Family” morning talk show, which he co-hosts, adding that he was “feeling very grateful and optimistic” in an Instagram post Tuesday.
The television star also used his social media platform to ask friends and fans to send “positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you feel comfortable with” while he’s in surgery at 1 p.m. PT on Thursday.
Mathison said doctors told him about a cancerous tumor on his right kidney “about a month ago,” after he got an MRI “for some gut issues [he’d] been having.”
“The good news is that it hasn’t spread to any other organs,” he continued. “They say my healthy lifestyle and diet has no doubt helped keep it from growing and spreading to other areas, as doctors think it’s been growing in me for minimum 10 years. I am extremely lucky that we found it early.” Read the full post below.
Several of Mathison’s celebrity friends commented on his Instagram post, including former “Dancing With the Stars” and “Entertainment Tonight” co-host Samantha Harris.
“Sending love, hugs and support to you and your beautiful family,” Harris wrote.
“You got this with ease brother. Wishing you and the fam the best!” wrote comedian and TMZ cameraman Adam Glyn.
“”You’re a beautiful soul,” wrote “General Hospital” actress Laura Wright. “Sending you love and light my friend.”
ABC News chief meteorologist Ginger Zee commented the praying hands emoji and wrote, “for you and your family.”
