Alicia Vikander is following in her father’s footsteps — literally — in the first official trailer for the upcoming “Tomb Raider” movie from Warner Bros. and MGM.
Taking on the role of Lara Croft, originally played by Angelina Jolie, the Swedish actress proves both her action and her acting chops in the two-minute, nine seconds teaser released Tuesday night.
“If you’re listening to this, I must be dead,” her dad (played by Dominic West) says in a personal video message. “I found something, a tomb called the Mother of Death.
“If Trinity succeeds, our world is in danger,” he adds.
Lara promises to stop them, and thus begins her death-defying adventure.
Based primarily on the 2013 video game that rebooted the franchise, “Tomb Raider” follows a 21-year-old Lara Croft as she embarks on a dangerous mission to an island off the coast of Japan that could hold the secret of her father’s disappearance seven years ago.

The film also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Kristin Scott Thomas. Roar Uthaug (“The Wave”) is directing, with Graham King as producer.The executive producers are Patrick McCormick, Denis O’Sullivan and Noah Hughes.
“Tomb Raider” hits theaters March 16.
