Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Larry David appeared on “Today” Friday, which ended up Al Roker some serious pause.
Roker jokingly introduced Sanders as David, before saying, “No, wait…”
He turned to David and made the correct introduction for viewers before reminding the comedy legend that if Sanders wins the presidency in November, he’ll be very busy flying out to New York to portray the politician on “Saturday Night Live.”
“Yes, that’s true,” David said in character as the senator from Vermont. “It’s not going to be easy for me. It’ll be great for the country, terrible for me.”
“I’m giving you a good job for four years and you’re complaining!” said Sanders.
“He’s doing too well!” David said as Sanders laughed. “It’s frightening to me how well he’s doing. I have to rethink everything after this.”
In a 2017 TCA panel talking about the upcoming ninth season of David’s HBO comedy classic, a reporter revealed that on a previously unannounced episode of the PBS show “Finding Your Roots,” David said that he and Sanders are distantly related.
“I thought there must have been some connection to Bernie Sanders,” David said. “I was very happy about that.”
“I love Bernie,” he added.
