Nicole Kidman will be one of the guests of honor at this year’s AFI Fest, as the Oscar-winning actress will be featured in a one-on-one conversation prior to a gala screening of her latest film, “Destroyer.”
The event will take place Nov. 13 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Kidman is a four-time Oscar nominee, winning Best Actress in 2002 for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in “The Hours.”
“Nicole Kidman is a fearless actor,” said AFI Festival director Michael Lumpkin. “In ‘Destroyer,’ she plunges headlong into the depths of her character’s soul, and it’s that total immersion onscreen that has come to define her fiercely intelligent body of work. We are honored to spotlight her tremendous career.”
Directed by Karyn Kusama, “Destroyer” stars Kidman as a hardened, ostracized detective who is still haunted by an FBI sting operation that went horribly wrong. When one of the men responsible for the operation failing resurfaces, she risks everything in a furious attempt to track him down.
“Destroyer” is one of three films directed by women that will be prominently featured at AFI Fest. The festival will open with the world premiere of Mimi Leder’s “On the Basis of Sex,” starring Felicity Jones as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The closing night screening will be Josie Rourke’s “Mary Queen of Scots,” starring Saoirse Ronan as the titular Scottish monarch and Margot Robbie as her cousin and ruler of England, Queen Elizabeth I.
AFI Fest will take place Nov. 8-15. The full schedule will be released later this month.
