Fox Searchlight Pictures and BBC Films released the first official image from “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie” on Monday.
The film, based on the the long running comedy series, has begun shooting on location in the U.K and the south of France.
It reunites Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as Edina and Patsy. After they are blamed for a major incident at a fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever.
The rest of the original cast will reuinite with Saunders and Lumley for the film, including Julia Sawalha as Saffy, Jane Horrocks as Bubble and June Whitfield as Mother.
Mandie Fletcher is directing from a script by Jennifer Saunders. Jon Plowman and Damian Jones are producing, with Steve Milne, Christian Eisenbeiss, Christine Langan, Nichola Martin, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French and Maureen Vincent serving as executive producers. The film will be released in 2016.
