ABC has given a pilot order to “The Brides,” a contemporary reimagining of “Dracula” from “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the network announced Wednesday.
Described as a “sexy contemporary reimagining” of the Bram Stoker novel, “The Brides” centers on a trio of “empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family.” The series is described as a family drama with strong horror elements.
Aguirre-Sacasa, who serves as executive producer on The CW’s “Riverdale” and its offshoots “Katy Keene” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” on Netflix, will write the pilot. Maggie Kiley is set to direct.
Aguirre-Sacasa and Kiley will executive produce the pilot, which hails from Warner Bros. Television and ABC Studios, alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions.
For Berlanti, the potential series marks yet another project at yet another network for the prolific producer. To date he has more than 20 series in the pipeline, including “Riverdale,” “Katy Keene,” “All American” and the many Arrowverse shows at The CW; “God Friended Me” at CBS; “Prodigal Son” on Fox; NBC’s “Blindspot”; “Sabrina,” the stalker-thriller “You” and the upcoming Julie Plec drama “The Girls on the Bus” at Netflix; “Stargirl,” “Doom Patrol” and “Titans” at DC’s streaming service; and a handful of projects for WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streaming service HBO Max.
At ABC, Berlanti most recently produced the on-and-done magician drama “Deception” in 2018.
