Catherine O’Hara Says Trump’s Canada Threat ‘Makes My Skin Crawl’ But Is ‘Unifying Canadians’

“UnWrapped’ Podcast: “God bless Canada. God bless Canadians,” the Ontario native says

Catherine O’Hara is not one to mince words — especially when it comes to politics. In a recent interview on TheWrap’s “UnWrapped” Podcast, the Canadian actress made it clear that Trump’s suggestion to make Canada the 51st U.S. state is not only laughable — it’s unsettling.

“God bless Canada. God bless Canadians,” the star of “The Studio” said when asked about the idea. “The only good thing out of this is it’s unifying Canadians and building a little nationalism that they deserve … that we deserve.”

While O’Hara remains proud of her Canadian roots, the thought of the U.S. absorbing her homeland clearly does not sit well. “Makes me just really want to be in Ontario, Canada, right now,” she admitted. “It makes my skin crawl.”

The “Schitt’s Creek” star didn’t stop there when opening up on the female-focused podcast. “Right now, the political climate scares me for women,” she added.

O’Hara can most recently be seen in the “The Studio,” exposing the beauty – and chaos – that often comes when running a Hollywood studio. In the Apple TV+ series, O’Hara plays Patty Leigh, the revered studio head who is replaced by her mentee Matt Remick (Seth Rogen). Now, Patty puts on a producer hat and gets to experience the perks of life outside of running a studio while still implementing her wit and wisdom.

During this episode, O’Hara also discusses…

  • Taking a pay cut on “Home Alone 2” for a shorter shoot schedule
  • Working with Pedro Pascal on “The Last of Us”
  • The best Oscars after-party and the mystery actor who gave her COVID
  • Women she looks up to including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Shonda Rhimes
  • The power of female studio heads over the years including Donna Langley, Sherry Lansing and Amy Pascal
  • Her two sons – the elder who worked in set construction but renovated her house during COVID and the younger who is a set dresser on “Shōgun,” “The Last of Us,” “Pachinko” and “Avatar.”
