Christoph Waltz has boarded the cast of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 5.
The “Inglourious Basterds” star will join the Hulu series in a recurring guest star role when “Only Murders in the Building” returns for its fifth installment. Like each season of “Only Murders,” details regarding Waltz’s role and storyline are being kept under wraps. Production is currently underway on the new season.
Waltz will appear alongside “Only Murders in the Building” stars Martin Short, Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Michael Cyril Creighton, who most recently traveled to Los Angeles in Season 4 to shepherd the film adaptation of their podcast. After introducing Tea Leoni as Sofia Caccimelio at the end of Season 4, co-creator and showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap the next season would also see Leoni returning.
Season 5 could potentially see the return of Meryl Streep’s Loretta, with Hoffman telling TheWrap, “I find it very hard to imagine Loretta not being a part of this television show now, and I’ve told Meryl this and I think she feels similarly.”
Waltz is best known for his roles in “Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained” and “Spectre,” and has recently appeared in “Most Dangerous Game,” “The Consultant,” “The Portable Door” and “Old Guy.” He will soon star in Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and Luc Besson’s “Dracula: A Love Tale.”
In January, before production started on Season 5, EP Dan Fogelman told TheWrap the new installment would welcome in “more big guest stars.”
In addition to Streep, Season 4 featured a guest cast including Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
Hoffman and Martin co-created and write the show, and serve as executive producers alongside Short, Gomez, Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.
Waltz is repped by CAA.
“Only Murders in the Building” Season 1-4 are now streaming on Hulu.
