Break out the acoustic guitars and tambourines: “A Complete Unknown” will be streaming on Hulu starting next week. The Timothée Chalamet-fronted Bob Dylan biopic has finally set a streaming release date of March 27, when it will be available for all Hulu and Hulu/Disney+ subscribers.
Nominated for eight Oscars including Best Actor and Best Picture, the film charts the early years of Bob Dylan’s rise in the New York City folk scene of the 1960s. The movie chronicles Dylan’s popularity and stardom, and eventual pivot to electric that left many in the folk community feeling burned. His relationship with mentor Pete Seeger (Edward Norton) is a particular focus of the film.
Chalamet prepared to play this role for years and does all his own singing and guitar playing in the film, which earned him many positive notices and a SAG award for Best Actor. Monica Barbaro also secured a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her portrayal of Joan Baez, and Scoot McNairy plays Woody Guthrie.
James Mangold, the filmmaker behind the Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line” starring Joaquin Phoenix and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” directs the film.
“A Complete Unknown” is one of several Best Picture nominees making their streaming debuts this month. “Wicked” hits Peacock on Friday and Oscar-winner “Anora” debuted on Hulu this week.
