Hey, “American Idol” didn’t set a new record low last night!
Week-to-week ratings for the ABC singing competition actually recovered to the tune of 15 percent growth on Sunday, rebounding from a rough performance against the ACM Awards.
All told, ABC finished first Sunday in the key 18-49 demographic and was second to CBS in primetime’s total-viewer averages.
ABC was first in ratings with a 1.2 rating/5 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 5.9 million, according to preliminary numbers. “America’s” Funniest Home Videos” at 7 p.m. had a 1.0/5 and 5.6 million viewers. A two-hour “American Idol” at 8 landed a 1.5/5 and 7.4 million viewers. “Deception” at 10 settled for a 0.6/3 and 3.4 million viewers.
CBS and Fox tied for second in ratings, both with a 0.7/3. CBS was first in total viewers with 7.4 million, Fox was fourth with 1.7 million.
For CBS, “60 Minutes” at 7 had a 0.7/3 and 8.8 million viewers. At 8, “Instinct” got a 0.6/2 and 7.2 million viewers. “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 9 received a 0.8/3 and 7.5 million viewers. At 10, “Madam Secretary” finished primetime to a 0.6/2 and 6.1 million viewers.
For Fox, following a rerun, “Bob’s Burgers” at 7:30 had a 0.8/3 and 1.6 million viewers. At 8, “The Simpsons” got a 0.9/4 and 2.2 million viewers. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at 8:30 received a 0.8/3 and 1.7 million viewers. At 9, “Family Guy” saw a 0.9/3 and 2 million viewers. “The Last Man on Earth” at 9:30 finished Fox’s night with a 0.6/2 and 1.5 million viewers.
NBC was fourth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and third in viewers with 3.9 million. “Dateline NBC” at 7 had a 0.6/3 and 3.9 million viewers. At 8, “Little Big Shots” got a 0.8/3 and 5.9 million viewers. “Genius Junior” at 9 received a 0.6/2 and 3.6 million viewers. At 10, “Timeless” managed a 0.5/2 and 2.4 million viewers.
Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1.6 million.
Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in viewers with 837,000.
The CW does not currently nationally program Sunday nights.
