Congratulations, “90 Day Fiance” fans! You are getting yet another spinoff series you never knew you always needed. And this one has a backwards twist.
TLC president and general manager Howard Lee announced the series, “90 Fiance: The Other Way,” Thursday during the Television Critics Association press tour. The new reality show is the fourth installment in the franchise, joining the original “90 Day Fiance,” “90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?” and “90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days.”
And in this show, the premise will literally go the other way, with an American moving to another country for their future spouse, in hopes they will be wed within 90 days.
“We noticed this in the casting process,” franchise producer Matt Sharp, CEO of Sharp Entertainment, said, elaborating on the new series during the “Happily Ever After?” panel. “There are Americans who are saying this does make sense to me … I’m going to forgo my family, my country, my culture.”
The O.G. show centers around an American and their overseas spouse-to-be. Using a special K-1 visa, these couples are required to get married at the end of only 90 days — or else be forced to return to their home countries.
“Happily Ever After?” features couples from the original series who gave up everything for a shot at love and the American dream. Having navigated through the K-1 “fiancé visa” process, the couples are now married, but they quickly realize the honeymoon is over as real-life sets in.
And then there is “Before the 90 Days,” which tells the early stories of folks stateside who believe they’ve met the love of their lives through international dating websites and apps. This series chronicles very first in-person meetings, which often includes an initial trip to a foreign land.
