Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Oscar-Winning Screenwriter, Dead at 85

Writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, who won Oscars for her screenplays for "A Room With A View and "Howards End," has died aged 85.

The German-born novelist, who had a pulmonary disorder, died at her home in New York.

Jhabvala, who spent much of her life in India, formed a successful 40-year partnership with producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory.

She won the 1975 Booker Prize for her novel "Heat and Dust."
