It bucks, it mists, it hurtles. It smells.
No this is not an amusement park ride and yes, the smells part is accurate. It’s 4D, the latest effort by cinema owners to offer something on the big screen that moviegoers can’t find on their tablets, mobile devices or gaming consoles.
4D enabled theaters have become popular attractions in Latin America, South Korea, China, Mexico and other foreign markets and they’ve begun to crop up stateside in recent years. A 4D enabled theater is scheduled to open at Regal Cinemas’ L.A. Live location this summer and another one is tentatively planned to debut in Oxnard, Calif.
