You either love the holidays or you hate them for whatever reason — there’s little in between — and if belong to the latter camp, then here are a few of our favorite non-holiday films on Netflix to help you forget about the season.
“Black Hawk Down”
Any war movie will make you forget about the holidays and be thankful for simply being alive — and this one is actually good.
“The In-Laws”
This remake of the 1979 classic will make you remember how disastrous parents-in-law can actually be and you’ll be happy you skipped out on visiting yours this year.
“Armaggedon”
What better way to avoid the holidays than if Earth as we know it was about to end? For a two-and-a-half hours, you can experience the same fantasy.
“The Human Centipede”
A crazed scientist kidnaps tourists and stitches their mouths to the each other’s rectums so they resemble a centipede. Just reading the description that will make you glad you’re not eating all that gross holiday food.
“Jaws”
Here’s one movie that won’t leave you feeling eager to cuddle up with a loved one or missing your family. On the contrary, it’ll probably leave you scarred for life and fearful of ever stepping foot on a beach again.
“13th”
You know who won’t be spending the holidays with their loved ones? Incarcerated people. Ava DuVernay’s look at the racial inequality in the United States’ prison system will make you forget all about the joyful holidays and leave you angry.
“The Amityville Horror”
A husband becomes possessed and goes on a murderous rampage trying to kill his family? That’s one way to make you feel better about not visiting your relatives this holiday season.
“Mean Girls”
What better way to forget about the holidays than to recall every mean and traumatizing thing that happened to you during high school?
“Stephen King’s Children of the Corn”
“Children of the Corn” gives you good reason to fear kids and make you grateful that you’re not around any this season.
“Spotlight”
We promise that this biographical film about a team of investigative journalists uncovering a sexual abuse scandal within the Catholic Church will not leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
“Rosewater”
A film about a real journalist who was really tortured and interrogated for 118 days will most certainly take you down a dark path far, far away from any memories of holiday joy and cheer.
