Is there anything John Cena can’t do?
The WWE superstar who recently proved his acting skills in “Trainwreck” and his comedy chops on “Saturday Night Live” — hell, he even speaks fluid Mandarin! — is now set to host Nickelodeon’s 2017 “Kids’ Choice Awards” in March.
“Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards is the biggest party for kids, and I’m so excited and honored to host this year’s show,” Cena said in an exclusive statement to TheWrap. “I have a lot of big surprises in store, so bring on the slime!”
The announcement was made while the wrestling megastar was acting as a special co-host on NBC’s “Today” Tuesday morning. Yep, he’s literally everywhere!
Nickelodeon’s 2017 “Kids’ Choice Awards” airs live on Saturday, March 11 from 8-9:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
It’s the only live event where kids’ votes count and the biggest stars of the day line up to get slimed, while celebrating favorites from across the worlds of film, television, music, pop culture, sports and animation.
With stunts and surprises at every turn, the show will air live from USC’s Galen Center in Los Angeles and will be seen by kids around the globe on Nickelodeon channels in more than 180 countries and territories, the network said in a statement.
The show is produced by Nickelodeon Productions. Elizabeth Kelly, Michael Dempsey, Shelly Sumpter Gillyard and Jay Schmalholz are executive producers.
Cena’s most recent credits include the TV series “Talking Smack,” as well as Tina Fey’s comedy “Sisters.” He is currently in post-production for “The Wall.”
Earlier this month, it was announced that the WWE star-turned-actor will appear opposite Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz in “The Pact,” an R-rated movie marking the directorial debut of Kay Cannon, who served as a producer on “30 Rock,” as well as co-executive producer on “New Girl,” “Baby Mama” and “Pitch Perfect 2.”
“The Pact” is set to hit theaters in April 2018. In the meantime, you can catch Cena every Tuesday on “WWE SmackDown Live” airing on the USA Network.
