Vimeo Launches VOD Publisher Network With Partners CBS, The Atlantic

The network allows viewers to rent or buy titles directly on a partner’s site

Online video sharing service Vimeo has launched the Vimeo On Demand Publisher Network with distribution partners including CBS, The Atlantic and Metacritic, the company announced Thursday.

Other launch partners joining the network include CBS Interactive’s TV Guide.com, TV.com and TEN: The Enthusiast Network.

The VOD Publisher Network allows viewers to rent or buy titles directly on a partner site, without leaving their browser window to make the purchase. After purchasing, visitors can either watch the title right there, or watch it later on nearly any connected device. Additionally, publisher partners will be able to embed and sell videos directly within articles or build out their own standalone VOD storefronts. Publishers will earn incremental revenue from purchases.

“The Vimeo On Demand Publisher Network is the next evolution of our VOD platform and provides a new avenue for communities to engage with Vimeo’s premium content,” said Kerry Trainor, CEO of Vimeo, in a statement. “And by selling VOD content, the Publisher Network provides additional revenue streams – without advertising – not only for partners, but also for our creators exposed to a wider audience via premium publishers.”

On The Atlantic, Vimeo will host a storefront featuring documentaries and indie films for purchase, while CBS Interactive’s sites TVGuide.com, TV.com and Metacritic will integrate Vimeo VOD content into their databases and search algorithms.

TEN is collaborating with Vimeo on custom storefronts for TEN’s action and adventure sport media brands, including the TransWorld, Surfer and GrindTV properties, and will incorporate organic promotion of VOD content within editorial channels.
