Tyler Perry’s “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween” will hit theaters on Oct. 20, Lionsgate announced Thursday.
Written and directed by Perry, the comedy will star himself, Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely. The film follows Madea and the gang as they venture to a haunted campground and they must literally run for their lives when monsters, goblins and the bogeyman are unleashed.
“Boo! A Madea Halloween” earned $28.5 million its opening weekend last October and went on to gross $73 million domestically. It also starred Bella Thorne.
The other “Madea” films include “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” “Madea’s Family Reunion,” “Madea Goes to Jail” and “A Madea Christmas.” “Madea Goes to Jail” was the most successful out of the series, earning $41 million its opening weekend in 2009 and going on to earn $90.5 million.
Perry’s other recent credits include “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” “Brain on Fire” and “Gone Girl.” He serves as a writer and director on the TV series “The Haves and the Haves Not” and will voice a character in Sony Pictures Animation’s “The Star.”
Perry is represented by WME, Sunshine Sachs and Ziffren Brittenham.
