Nikki Reed, who played Rosalie Hale in the “Twilight” franchise, has been cast as Betsy Ross in the upcoming season of Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow,” TheWrap has confirmed. Reed will be a series regular.
The supernatural drama has made repeated reference to the fact that Ross, who legend has it stitched the first American flag, was once the flame of main character Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison). “Think more Angelina Jolie than frumpy Martha Stewart — a kickass Mrs. Smith to Ichabod Crane’s Mr. Smith,” her character description reads.
Season 2 of “Sleepy Hollow” ended with Crane and Lieutenant Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) achieving a decisive victory over evil. Crane was driven to kill his wife, Katrina Crane (Katia Winter) — but with good reason and intentions. That opened the door for a potential Season 3 Crane/Mills love story, which many fans have been waiting for.
Fox renewed the show for a third season in March. “The Glades” creator Clifton Campbell is taking over for now-former showrunner Mark Goffman. Campbell also co-executive produced “White Collar.”
Goffman exited the show for an overall deal with CBS TV Studios. Under the new pact, Goffman will supervise and develop new projects for the studio.
“Sleepy Hollow” returns on Oct. 1, 2015.
