TNT’s drama pilot based on 2010 Australian film “Animal Kingdom” has added Molly Gordon in the series regular role of Nicky, TheWrap has learned.
Currently shooting in Los Angeles, the drama stars Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Finn Cole, Jake Weary and Daniella Alonso.
The project is based on David Michod’s award-winning film of the same name, and follows a family of criminals. The story centers on 17-year-old Joshua “J” Cody (Cole), who moves in with his wild, freewheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town.
Headed by boot-tough matriarch Janine “Smurf” Cody (Barkin), the clan also consists of: Joshua, aka “J” (Speedman), who was scooped up by Smurf when his mother died of an overdose; Pope (Hatosy), the oldest and most dangerous of the Cody boys; Craig (Robson), the tough and fearless middle son and Deran (Weary), the troubled, suspicious “baby” of the family.
Gordon’s character Nicky is J’s steady girlfriend.
“Animal Kingdom” is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television, with Wells, Jonathan Lisco, Andrew Stearn, Michôd and Liz Watts serving as executive producers.
Wells is set to direct the pilot from a script by Lisco.
Gordon most recently appeared on “Orange Is the New Black” and “Sin City Saints.” She is represented by Paradigm and Burstein Company.
