“This Is Us” has booked Sylvester Stallone for a guest role on Season 2, creator Dan Fogelman announced.
“Kevin’s character is shooting his big movie and we needed a big co-star with him,” Fogelman said at a Television Critics Association panel. He also revealed that the movie will be a period war drama. “Sly Stallone is going to come and do a part on the show as Justin [Hartley’s] co-star/father figure on the film,” he said.
Stallone will play himself on the series, joining regulars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan and Ron Cephas Jones on the show’s second season.
“Milo obviously knows him really well, and that was a big reason why he’s doing it,” Fogelman said. “We have a great script for him, I think it’s going to be really exciting.”
Fogelman teased a few other details about Season 2, including that the cause of Jack’s death will be revealed in the upcoming season. The premiere episode, which will pick up shortly after the Season 1 finale, will reveal “a giant piece of the puzzle,” Fogelman said.
“This Is Us” Season 2 will premiere on NBC on Sept. 26.
