Stephen Colbert Says Goodbye to Jon Stewart, ‘Daily Show’

“Colbert Report” host is off to CBS’s “Late Show”

Stephen Colbert stopped in at his old job, Jon Stewart‘s “Daily Show,” to break the news that he’s leaving Comedy Central.

“Jon, this is going to come as something of a shock to you,” Colbert said, after urging his old boss to sit down — and then to “sit down more.”

“You’re ending your show,” Stewart said.

“Jon, please,” Colbert said, adding: “I’m ending my show.”

Colbert explained that there is “no mountain left for me to climb. It’s become clear to me that I have won television.”

Stewart pointed out that it wasn’t a contest.

“Not anymore, Jon,” Colbert replied. “Almost nine years ago, I promised to change the world. And together — I did it.”

His new plans include riding the rails, making stew from peanuts and stolen chicken.

Or just hosting “The Late Show” on CBS.

Before he left, Colbert graciously played a highlight reel of his own best moments on “The Daily Show.”
