Adam Driver is getting ready to travel from a galaxy far, far away to New York’s Rockefeller Center.
NBC announced Saturday that Driver, who plays villain Kylo Ren in the new movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” will host “Saturday Night Live” Jan. 16. No musical guest has yet been announced.
“The Force Awakens” has taken in $129 million from abroad since it began rolling out Wednesday, distributor Disney reported Saturday.
That puts it within striking distance of the international opening weekend record of $316.1 million and the record for a worldwide — that is foreign and domestic grosses combined — opening weekend of $524.9 million within range. “The Force Awakens” brought in a record $120 million-plus in its first day at the North American box office, so its worldwide or global total is roughly $250 million.
No cast member from the new film has yet hosted “SNL,” though Driver’s co-stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega did appear in a “Star Wars” sketch in a November episode, as did director J.J. Abrams.
