Sinclair Broadcasting Group aired a new “must-run” segment arguing that the uproar over the Trump administration’s policy to separate children from their families and placing them in detention centers is just the “liberal” media getting all hysterical.
“Many members of the media and opponents of the president have seized on this issue to make it seem as if those who are tough on immigration are somehow monsters,” former Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn said. “Let’s be honest: While some of the concern is real, a lot of it is politically driven by the liberals in politics and the media.”
The segment is slated to air on more than 100 Sinclair-owned or operated news stations across the U.S., according to Media Matters, a progressive-leaning media watchdog group.
“Our immigration system is undeniably broken and the discourse around this topic is toxic,” Epshteyn said at the beginning of the segment. “Many members of the media and opponents of the president have seized on this issue to make it seem as if those who are tough on immigration are somehow monsters.”
The segment failed to mention that it was Trump who implemented the “zero tolerance” policy, which has resulted in a sharp rise in the number of children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border and has been widely condemned.
In April, Sinclair which owns 193 local stations across the country, was criticized for forcing its anchors to read a scripted promotion aimed to sow distrust in media.
