Los Angeles, August 7, 2013 – TheWrap will host its second annual ShortList Online Film festival, from August 19 – 29, 2013. The ShortList is a mobile-based film festival that showcases 12 award-winning short films, hand-picked from the world’s top film festivals of the past year. Short films are a vibrant art form that can entertain and educate while showcasing new talent. By expounding on the short film format’s mobile adaptability, The ShortList aims to encourage the larger filmmaking community to embrace the digital future.
The shorts will be hosted on TheWrap.com’s website and mobile platform. They will also be available on MTV’s film sites. This year’s festival is being programmed by Mike Plante, who serves as a Shorts Programmer for the Sundance Film Festival.
The jury panel features these prominent figures from across the indie filmmaking community:
Ted Hope (Executive Director, San Francisco Film Society)
Jonathan Schwartz, Founder & President, Super Crispy Entertainment
Liz Garcia, Writer/Director, “The Lifeguard”
Destin Daniel Cretton (Writer/Director, “Short Term 12”)
Bec Smith (Agent, UTA)
Awards will be given at a live event held on August 29th: an Audience Award chosen by viewers’ online votes and a Jury Prize chosen by the Industry jury. Check out a quick video from last year’s ceremony!
Subscribers to TheWrap’s First Take newsletter will receive one entry per day embedded in their morning email, where they can vote. Viewers can also screen the films at any time during the festival by visiting the ShortList website and vote from August 19 – 28.
