“Shadowhunters” landed the top series debut on ABC Family in more than two years, despite having never actually aired on ABC Family. That’s because on Tuesday, the “Shadowhunters” start date, the long-running ABC Family cable channel was rebranded as Freeform.

The demon-killer debut earned 1.82 million total viewers, the best series premiere on the cable channel in more than two years. That same claim can be made in in 18-34 demographic, 18-49 age range, and 12-34 demo.

“Shadowhunters” was the second-most social show yesterday, behind only its lead-in “Pretty Little Liars.”

“PLL” also out-rated the newcomer, not surprisingly, landing 2.25 million total viewers for its winter season premiere. It was Tuesday’s top TV telecast for adults 18-34 and viewers 12-34.

That day, the new Disney brand saw its new Freeform app reached No. 2 in the entertainment category for iPhone on iTunes store charts.
