Ten films from first- and second-time directors, including “The Arbor” director Clio Barnard’s dark drama “The Selfish Giant” (photo above) and the Oscar foreign-language entries “In Bloom” and “My Dog Killer,” have joined the lineup of the AFI Fest in the New Auteurs section, the American Film Institute announced on Tuesday.
Films also include the animated drama “The Fake” from South Korea, Ben Russell’s and Ben Rivers’ experimental triptych “A Spell to Ward Off the Darkness” and the Mexican comedy “We Are Mari Pepa.”
The AFI also announced 36 shorts from 16 different countries, and revealed the makeup of its New Auteurs and Shorts juries.
The New Auteurs jury will consist of writers and critics Peter DeBruge, Karina Longworth, Amy Nicholson and Betsy Sharkey. The Shorts jury is made up of producer Alejandro De Leon, filmmakers Kitao Sakurai and Jordan Vogt-Roberts and programmer Heidi Zwicker.
The 2013 AFI Fest will take place from Nov. 7-14 in Hollywood. Passes and more information about the distribution of free tickets are available at AFI.com/AFIFEST.
