Sarah Silverman will return to Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” for a multi-episode arc on its upcoming third season, the premium cable network announced on Wednesday.
Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan star on the drama as real-life pioneers of human sexuality William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The show chronicles their unusual lives, romance and pop-culture trajectory. Masters and Johnson’s research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a Midwestern teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine.
Silverman will reprise the role of Helen, and the third season will see her character and Betty (Analeigh Ashford) trying to have a baby, which proves to be a major challenge for a lesbian couple in 1966.
The series is an adaptation of Thomas Maier’s book “Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How To Love.” The book was developed into a TV series by Michelle Ashford, and produced by Sony Pictures Television.
Silverman, who also currently recurs on Fox’s animated “Bob’s Burgers,” is represented by UTA and Thruline Entertainment.
The new season of Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” premieres July 12 at 10 p.m. ET.
