A bunch of left-leaning celebrities including Kathy Griffin, Samantha Bee, Madonna and Johnny Depp unwittingly found themselves in a very unfamiliar place on Wednesday: Appearing in the Republican National Committee’s latest campaign ad for the upcoming midterm elections.
The new ad, titled “The Left in 2018: Unhinged,” features a “voiceover” that is taken from former 2016 Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders’ campaign speeches. The video then proceeds to show a slew of moments from all the times these celebrities and talk show hosts attacked the GOP, in dramatic fashion.
This includes Kathy Griffin’s infamous photo shoot with a ketchup-stained severed head of President Donald Trump, “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—,” Michelle Wolf’s controversial White House Correspondents Dinner set, among others.
Shortly after the ad was released, Griffin slammed the attempt by the RNC on Twitter. “The @GOP has used video from my Trump mask photo shoot in their latest web ad. They’ve also included @MaxineWaters and @iamsambee – I’m in good company. Is this the best you got guys? A comic’s photoshoot…while your president is keeping children in internment camps? F— You.”
