Roseanne Barr says that she was “Ambien tweeting” at 2 a.m. Tuesday when she made the racially charged comments about Valerie Jarrett that led to the cancellation of “Roseanne.”

“Guys I did something unforgiveable [sic] so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible,” she wrote.

“I made a mistake I wish I hadn’t but … don’t defend it please. ty.”

ABC canceled Barr’s sitcom “Roseanne” early Tuesday after Barr suggested that Jarrett is a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes.”

She apologized after an almost immediate backlash.

“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks,” she said. “I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.”

Barr left Twitter Tuesday morning, but returned Tuesday night.

“I want to apologize to you. I am very sorry to have hurt you. I hope you can accept this sincere apology!” Barr wrote while tagging the former adviser to President Obama.

Barr subsequently tweeted:

She also asked that viewers not boycott ABC for canceling her show.

Barr also thanked a number of her supporters and apologized to the people who had lost their jobs due to her hit sitcom shutting down.

She also retweeted a post from Kate Authur of BuzzFeed News, which she said was “written by me. I have nothing more to say.” That post included further apologies.
