“Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has signed a new multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, an individual with knowledge of the deal tells TheWrap.
As part of the pact, Aguirre-Sacasa will develop, write, and produce new series for the studio under his Muckle Man Productions banner.
He will also continue to showrun his current WBTV series — The CW’s “Riverdale” and Netflix’s “Sabrina” — and executive produce “Riverdale” spinoff pilot, “Katy Keene,” which was co-developed with Michael Grassi.
Aguirre-Sacasa has been the Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics since 2014, a job that led him to collaborate with Greg Berlanti’s WBTV-based Berlanti Productions on adapting the Archie characters for television. Their partnership started with “Riverdale” — The CW’s dark take on Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead — which premiered in 2017, is currently in its third season and has already been renewed for a fourth.
The Kiernan Shipka-led “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” was their next small-screen Archie-verse creation, debuting to much fanfare on Netflix last October. The series’ second season launches Friday, with the show already renewed for a third and fourth installment.
Aguirre-Sacasa’s new deal comes after Berlanti renewed his own overall with Warner Bros TV last year.
Deadline first reported the news of Aguirre-Sacasa’s new WBTV deal.
