‘Reign’ Ups Ben Geurens to Series Regular in New Role (Exclusive)

Actor will play English ambassador character rather than Spanish prince role he was originally cast in

In a bit of a shakeup, The CW’s “Reign” has upped new cast member Ben Geurens to series regular — though he will be playing a different character than the one he was originally cast for.

Geurens will now appear on the show as Gideon Blackburn, who serves as the British Ambassador sent by Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) to spy on Mary Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane). We quickly question where his true allegiance lies.

As TheWrap previously reported, Geurens had originally been cast in the recurring role of Don Carlos, Spain’s sexy and charming prince. There’s no word yet on who will now be cast as Don Carlos.

Other new cast members joining Kane, Toby Regbo and Torrance Combs this season include Nick Lee as Nicholas and Saamer Usmani as Martin. Both actors are recurring.

Geurens appeared on Australian soaps “Home and Away” and “Neighbors.” He is represented by Impression Entertainment in the U.S. and United Management in Australia.
