R&B singer Angie Stone was charged with domestic aggravated assault on Tuesday following a violent incident involving her daughter at her home in Lithonia, Georgia.
Stone, 53, got into an altercation with her daughter, Diamond Stone, on Monday night and allegedly hit her in the face with a metal stand and knocked out several of her teeth, according to WGCL-TV in Atlanta.
A police report quoted Diamond, 30, as saying her mother came into her room demanding she clean it up. She also said her mother told her to control her own children, who were running around the house “half-naked.”
A fight then broke out, according to police, but Diamond along with family friend and witness Blondy Chisolm said they could not remember who lashed out first.
Angie Stone told officers her daughter struck first, with closed fists, and that she didn’t realize she had hit her daughter at first in retaliation. When she did, “she quickly put the stand down and attempted to get away,” the police report stated.
Diamond Stone refutes this claim, asserting that she was the one who withdrew after being struck, in an effort to call police. Angie Stone credits Chisolm with breaking up the fight.
Diamond Stone was not charged and was released from police custody.
A three-time Grammy nominee, Angie Stone is known for her R&B hits “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” “Brotha,” and “I Wanna Thank You.”
