Rapper Carlos Walker, also known as “Shawty Lo,” was killed in a car crash Wednesday morning near southwest Atlanta.
Shawty Lo was a founding member of the hip-hop group D4L and founded D4L Records in 2003. He is best known for his debut single, “Dey Know.”
There were no other cars involved in the accident that took place on the Interstate 285 near the exit of Cascade Road. Shawty Lo died at the scene. He was 40 years old.
“It was a single car accident and it appears he lost control of the vehicle, hit trees and the car overturned and burst into flames,” Fulton Country Police Cpl. Mauren Smith told TheWrap. “He was ejected from the vehicle. The passengers — there were two females — were able to escape the vehicle and were transported to a nearby hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.”
Radio personality Ryan Cameron announced the news on Twitter early Wednesday, writing, “Shawty Lo had been killed in a hit and run accident this am.”
