The December 2012 premiere for “Django Unchained” was canceled in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, but three years later not even the threat of a police protest could quell Quentin Tarantino‘s pent-up, creative and outlandish showmanship at the world premiere of “The Hateful Eight” at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood on Monday night.
The writer-director — who revived the extinct 70 mm format for this “roadshow experience” — delivered a string of preaching, pacing and shrieking introductions of the cast for fans who worship the work of the “Pulp Fiction,” “Kill Bill” and “Inglourious Basterds” auteur.
After Bob and Harvey Weinstein surprised Tarantino with a 70 mm cell of the title frame of the movie, Tarantino called the mogul brothers “softies,” before introducing stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins and Jennifer Jason Leigh, plus surprise guest Channing Tatum — making Tarantino’s “magic mic-work” an apt visual pun.

“The eighth film from Quentin Tarantino,” as the billing states, opens in a limited roadshow release on Christmas Day before a national release on Jan. 8, 2016.
