“The Cosby Show’s” Phylicia Rashad has closed a deal to join the cast of Ryan Coogler‘s “Rocky” spinoff/sequel “Creed,” TheWrap has confirmed.
Michael B. Jordan stars in the MGM production alongside Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson.
Jordan is playing the son of Rocky’s nemesis-turned-mentor Apollo Creed, and Rashad will play Apollo’s widow. Stallone’s Rocky Balboa will act as the younger Creed’s reluctant trainer.
The film will marks a reunion for Jordan and Coogler, who previously teamed on the critically acclaimed drama “Fruitvale Station.”
Stallone will produce with Kevin King and original “Rocky” producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff.
Rashad recently defended Bill Cosby, who has been under fire in the media of late. She’s represented by Innovative Artists and Parseghian/Planco.
