Metro Editor of the New York Times Wendell Jamieson has resigned after an internal investigation, TheWrap has learned. The paper did not disclose to TheWrap the nature of the investigation.
On Monday, Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet and managing editor Joe Kahn circulated an internal memo, which both announced Jamieson’s departure from “after an investigation.” The memo included the following statement from Jamieson:
“Leading Metro for the last five years and working with the incredible Times team has been the high point of my professional life. I regret and apologize for my mistakes and leaving under these circumstances.”
The memo also announced that Susan Chira, now working as the paper’s senior correspondent covering “gender issues,” would serve as the interim metro editor.

The news was first reported by the newly revived Gothamist. A spokesperson for the Times confirmed the existence of the memo but declined to offer specifics about the investigation or what led to Jamieson’s resignation.
Jamieson’s Twitter profile was offline Monday afternoon.
