Dozens of trans employees and LGBTQ supporters assembled outside of Netflix’s offices in Hollywood. on Wednesday for the “‘Stand Up’ in Solidarity” organized by trans activist Ashlee Marie Preston.
Preston and others addressed a crowd of roughly 200 people.
Many rally goers were Netflix employees who walked out to protest the streamer’s handling of Dave Chappelle’s “The Closer.”
Preston addressed the crowd.
Protesters carried hand-written signs.
“It’s violent to make members of the transgender community who work for your company participate in the oppression of their own community,” Preston said.
Rather than ask for the special to be removed, protesters issued a list of demands and proposed policies, including a fund for trans and nonbinary talent, content warnings and a formal apology.
An estimated 10% of Netflix employees joined the walkout.
