The set of “Morning Joe” took a negative view of the most recent media coverage surrounding Brett Kavanaugh, criticizing the allegations and innuendo which have surrounded his nomination to the Supreme Court this week.
“This has not been the media’s finest hour,” said show regular Mike Barnicle.
On set, Joe Scarborough went even further, denouncing liberal journalists who had seemingly already made up their minds before the facts could be known.
“Oh my God. We have been harshly critical of Fox News for being in the tank and being state television for Donald Trump,” said the former GOP Congressman. “What we’ve seen last week has made me want to call networks and put a ‘D’ in front of the name of the so-called journalists that have already decided hat Brett Kavanaugh is a rapist.”
“This three hour block of time is a smear-free zone. There will be no convicting of either person on either side on this show,” added c0-host Mika Brzezinski, who warned that any such smearing would result in an ejection from set.
“I’ve done it before,” she said.
What began with one allegation of past sexual assault two weeks ago from California professor Christine Blasey Ford, led to a second accusation from around the same time in the 1980s by another woman, Deborah Ramirez, on Sunday. Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti has also made the rounds on Twitter and MSNBC/CNN this week to tease more women who he said plan to come forward to offer corroborating evidence against Kavanaugh.
On Monday, Kavanaugh sat for an interview on Fox News with his wife to again offer a categorical denial of all allegations leveled against him.
“I’ve never sexually assaulted anyone. I did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years there after,” he told Martha MacCallum adding that he was never at the party Ford says she was assaulted at and had never been black out drunk during his school days.
