“Melissa & Joey” will be wrapping production on its final season this week, TheWrap has learned exclusively. The comedy will conclude its storyline at the end of the fourth season, which will air later this summer.
“We are proud of the milestones ‘Melissa & Joey’ has achieved, being the network’s first sitcom to reach 100 episodes and the network’s first comedy to win a People’s Choice Award,” ABC Family Programming and Development executive vice president, Karey Burke, told TheWrap in a statement.
At the end of season 3, Joe (Lawrence) transitioned from Mel’s (Hart) “manny” to a personal fitness trainer — and from her employee to her husband. Now that they’re married, Mel and Joe struggle to find time for their honeymoon, while balancing their careers and raising Joe’s recently discovered teenage daughter Dani (Jada Facer).
Burke continued, “Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking toward starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close. We are grateful to Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence and the whole cast and crew who worked so hard on this successful show.”
“Melissa & Joey” is currently airing all new episodes Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC Family and has been the network’s highest-rated sitcom. In January, it won for Favorite Cable TV Comedy at the People’s Choice Awards. It was the show’s third-consecutive People’s Choice nomination and first win.
Executive-produced by Bob Young & David Kendall, Paula Hart, Hart and Lawrence, “Melissa & Joey” also stars Taylor Spreitler and Nick Robinson.
The 100th episode will air as the mid-season finale on Wednesday, March 18.
