Maria Menounos Updates Fans on Brain Tumor Battle: ‘I’m Recovering Well’

“Should be as good as new very very soon!” she writes

Menounos released a statement on her Instagram Monday morning on her health after revealing she was stepping down as a co-anchor of E! News.

The host announced she had recently undergone a risky surgery to remove a brain tumor.

“I want you all to know that I’m ok!” Menounos wrote. “Seriously I’m recovering well and should be as good as new very very soon!”

She added that the same couldn’t be said about her mother, Litsa Menounos, who has stage 4 brain cancer.

“So please keep her in your prayers,” she continued.

The rest of the post includes Menounos thanking the doctors and nurses at Cedar Sinai, where she was treated.

The host also took the time Monday to thank her employers, E! News and Sirius XM, for giving her time off to take care of her health. In a People magazine exclusive, Menounos said she started experiencing symptoms in February.

“I’d been getting lightheaded on set and having headaches,” she said. “My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.”

An MRI revealed she had a meningioma brain tumor.

“I didn’t cry. I actually laughed,” she said. “It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mom has a brain tumor–and now I have one too?”

The surgery lasted roughly seven hours, according to the E! host. Luckily, doctors were able to remove 99.9 percent of the tumor, which was benign. After six days in the hospital, she returned home to recover.

While she’s recovering, Hollywood stars and other figures sent their well wishes.
