“Split” could be the beginning of a whole new chapter for M. Night Shyamalan.

Following the film’s repeated success at the box office, the writer/director thanked fans while teasing plans for a sequel.

“I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag,” Shyamalan tweeted. “I can’t tell you what it is, but if you’ve seen #Split…”

The Universal/Blumhouse film stars James McAvoy as a man with 23 different personalities who kidnaps three teenage girls. For those who have seen the film, they know that it is a sequel of sorts to another Shyamalan movie (no spoilers).

“Split” scared up an estimated $40 million during its opening weekend, doubling estimates and quadrupling its estimated $10 million budget. The film has been number one at the box office for three straight weeks as of this week, bringing in $14.6 million this weekend for a total of $142.7 million worldwide.

It also became the first Universal film since 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton” to hold the top spot for three consecutive weekends, and Shyamalan’s second film to do so since 1999’s “The Sixth Sense.”
