Lifetime hasn’t yet aired “Flowers in the Attic,” but is already planning the sequel “Petals on the Wind.”
A week before airing its adaptation of V.C. Andrews’ novel, Lifetime announced plans Thursday for the sequel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

“It basically takes place about 10 years after the first movie ends,” said writer Kayla Alpert, who also adapted “Flowers in the Attic,” promising that the sequel will be “a very compelling revenge drama.”

“Flowers in the Attic,” based on Andrews’ 1979 novel, follows the Dollanganger kids (Kiernan Shipka and Christopher Mason Dye). After their father’s sudden death, their mother Corrine (Heather Graham), tells them to hide in their wealthy grandparents’ attic so she can reclaim the family fortune. The children endure horrible treatment at the hands of their ruthless grandmother Olivia Foxworth (Ellen Burstyn).

It premieres on Lifetime on Jan. 18.
