Fox’s “Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a go as “Orange Is the New Black” star Laverne Cox joins the cast, lifting the cast contingency on the project being produced by Fox 21 TV Studios and the Jackal Group.
Cox has been cast in the role of Frank-N-Furter, the main antagonist of the story, played by Tim Curry in the original 1975 film.
The 2-hour remake, which will be filmed in advance, not live, will be produced by Kenny Ortega — who will be directing and choreographing the movie — former president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company Gail Berman and Lou Adler, who produced the original movie.
Cox is best known for playing Sophia Burtes on Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black,” a role for which she became the first transgender actress to ever be nominated for an Emmy award. She is represented by Hartig Hilepo Agency.
“Rocky Horror Picture Show” is slated to premiere on Fox in fall, 2016.
